Whitehaven Beach: Sailing the Whitsundays

Today we left the tropical rainforests and reefs in Cairns to travel down the east coast to the Whitsundays.  Where we hoped onto a sailboat for a 2 night sailing adventure with Prosail.

I have been sailing before but this was my first time spending the night on a sailboat.

Our first evening consisted of a lovely sunset sail to our anchor point followed by dinner and drinks on the boat. Then it was off to bed to prepare for the next days adventures at Whitehaven Beach.

Whitehaven Beach is listed as one of the top 3 beaches in the world and it is Australia’s most photographed beach. It was a tough decision not bring my DSLR camera with me; our skipper advised against it since the super fine silica sand  is notorious for destroying cameras.

The sand at Whitehaven is very protected as it is no longer being replenished by the ocean. The only commercial use for this sand was for the Hubble Telescope. Therefore, don’t even think about taking a bit of the sand home with you, nasty fines are in place for those who try.

As we left the pristine white sandy beach of Whitehaven we ran into a bit of weather. Now I am not going to complain since we have been exceptionally lucky with the weather in Australia, considering it is the wet season.

So naturally we broke out into a 90’s dance party in the pouring rain. Yup, that’s how we roll.

  1. I’ve spent some time going through your site and I have to say that it is really coming together. Lots of good stuff and lots of variety. Also, I know I said this a long time ago but you have a real talent for putting music tracks to your videos. Its amazing how many places and things you have done. I am really glad to see things working out for you. If you wantto be a travel videographer I can’t see any better way than the way you are doing it. I know I’m jealous. It makes me want to travel again thats for sure. Well keep it up because you so deserve it.

All the best from your loyal fan and long time subscriber,
